How to check your PC specs

Find your graphics card, processor and memory in Windows 10 or 11 in about a minute, with nothing to download.

The three things you need

To check whether a PC can run a game, three parts matter: the graphics card (also called the GPU or video card), the processor (the CPU) and the memory (RAM). Everything below is built into Windows 10 and Windows 11, so you do not need to install anything.

Processor and RAM: Settings

  1. Open the Start menu and click Settings, or press the Windows key and I together.
  2. Click System, then About. In Windows 11 it is at the bottom of the System page, and in Windows 10 at the bottom of the left-hand list.
  3. Under Device specifications, read Processor (for example, AMD Ryzen 5 3600 6-Core Processor) and Installed RAM (for example, 16.0 GB).
  4. Below it, System type tells you if Windows is 64-bit. Almost every game today needs 64-bit.

Graphics card: Task Manager

  1. Press Ctrl, Shift and Esc together to open Task Manager. If you see a small window, click More details at the bottom.
  2. Click the Performance tab on the left.
  3. Click GPU 0. The name of your graphics card is in the top right corner, and Dedicated GPU memory below shows its video memory.
  4. If there is also a GPU 1, you have a laptop or PC with two graphics chips. The one with its own dedicated memory is the stronger one, and that is the one to use in our tools.

If the Performance tab does not list a GPU, open Device Manager from the Start menu and expand Display adapters.

The other way: DxDiag

  1. Press the Windows key and R together to open the Run box.
  2. Type dxdiag and press Enter. If Windows asks about checking drivers, click No.
  3. The System tab shows the processor and memory. The Display tab shows the name of the graphics card. If there is more than one Display tab, check each of them.

Use Task Manager for the amount of video memory. It is easier to read there.

Using your specs

Open the Can I run it checker, type the game, then start typing your graphics card name and pick it from the list. Add your processor and RAM if you can, because they make the answer more accurate. The Detect button reads the name your browser reports, which saves typing for most cards.

If the exact name is not in the list, choose the closest one. Cards one step apart are usually within 15% of each other. Laptop graphics cards are listed with the word Laptop in their name, and a laptop card is slower than the desktop card with the same number.

For a score of the whole PC, use Rate my PC. To see every game your parts can play, use What can my PC run.

If something looks wrong

A processor name that ends in a number only, such as 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-12400F, is complete: the model is i5-12400F. If the graphics card shows as Microsoft Basic Display Adapter, the graphics driver is missing. Install the driver from the card maker's website (NVIDIA, AMD or Intel) and check again.

Memory sold as 16 GB shows as slightly less in some places, for example 15.9 GB. That is normal. Choose 16 GB in the tools.

Questions

How do I check my graphics card in Windows?

Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager, click the Performance tab and pick GPU 0 (or GPU 1 on a laptop with two graphics chips). The name of the card is shown in the top right corner.

How do I see how much RAM I have?

Open Settings, go to System and then About. Installed RAM is listed under Device specifications. Task Manager shows the same figure on the Performance tab, under Memory.

How do I find out my processor?

Settings, System, About shows the full name of the processor. For the number of cores, open Task Manager, click Performance and then CPU.

Do I need to download a program to see my specs?

No. Everything you need to run the checker on this site is built into Windows, as described above.

Why does my laptop show two graphics cards?

Many laptops have a small graphics chip inside the processor for everyday use and a stronger one for games. Games should use the stronger one, which is the one to enter in our tools.
